Janice Byer
Jon Gnagy’s “Learn to Draw’ TV show viewed on Saturday mornings was my thrill of the week as a child. I learned to draw by age 10 and was referred to as ‘The Artist’ through high school. I studied illustration and drawing at ‘Paier School of Art’ in Hamden, CT, and ceramics at’ Silvermine Art School’ in Weston, CT. After receiving a scholarship to study at the ‘California College of Arts and Crafts’ in Oakland, CA where I completing my Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree, I taught Figure Drawing and “How to Draw’ in my Studio and Amsterdam Arts in Berkeley, CA.
My medium graduated from oils to watercolor because of the natural beauty it provides. My eye is drawn to documenting the history of my subject, its character and unique details.
I am proud to be a member of the ‘American Society of Botanical Artists’ and its Chapter ‘Northern California of Botanical Artists’. Plus, it is my honor to have been chosen to be the ‘Featured Artist’ at ‘Michaels Arts & Crafts’ in Pinole, CA.
Plus, I am an active member of the ‘Carquinez Woman’s Club’ whos’ home is at ‘The Old Homestead’ a California State Historical Landmark #731. Our mission is to raise funds to promote education.
Currently I am a children’s book illustrator: “Henry the Great Blue Heron’, ’Crunchy Carrots’, ‘Baby Carrots’ written by Sondra Perry, ‘#empowered A Gratitude & Affirmations Journal’ by Pam Grimm, and ‘There’s a Dragon in Every Tree’ by Mari Cyphers.
