Art has always been an important part of my life. I taught art for 17 years in the Orinda Union School District introducing a variety of art mediums to my students. That was a very gratifying and rewarding experience. Throughout my teaching career, I tried many different art disciplines. However, after retiring from teaching in 2014 I eventually returned to my original love, painting and drawing, which I continue to dabble in today.
In recent years, I developed a keen interest in botanical watercolor under the guidance of Catherine Watters. That art form has become a personal passion. Botanical painting requires considerable precision and careful observation. Each plant study has its own beautiful peculiarities that I attempt to capture. Botanical watercolor painting often prompts me to stop and examine Nature’s beauty in all of its glory.
As a member of the Northern California Society of Botanical Artists, I am pleased to have had the opportunity to show my work at the following venues:
The Gardens of Alcatraz Florilegium, at Alcatraz (2013); San Francisco Flower & Garden Show (2014); and Alcatraz Florilegium Exhibit “Selected Prints,” at the Stinson Beach Library. More recently, my work was displayed at CAL’s Botanical Garden’s “Plants Illustrated” in the newly renovated Julia Morgan Hall, and at the Orinda Library Art Gallery’s “Teachers Exhibit.”
I hope you enjoy the pieces I posted here as much as I enjoyed creating them.
