Upcoming Events 2012

San Jose Heritage Rose Garden

Saturday, May 12th, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM or as long as you want to stay, until dusk

All NCalSBA members are invited to spend a day in this unique garden learning about old roses, drawing and painting, and enjoying a sociable picnic lunch.

The San Jose Heritage Rose Garden is a nationally recognized collection of historical roses on five acres, including species, rare and endangered roses, “found” roses from old cemeteries and homesteads, and those important to the history of rose hybridizing. These beauties are not the roses you see at Home Depot!

Meet at the picnic tables at the end of Seymour Street. Curator Jill Perry will talk with us at 10:00 AM sharp to introduce us to the garden and take us on a “walk through rose history.” We’ll gather for lunch around noon, and the rest of the time wander freely through the garden to draw, take photos, and enjoy the roses.

The SJHRG is located in Guadalupe Gardens, in the flyway of Mineta San Jose Airport. Directions to the garden can be found here.

Any questions, contact South Bay Rep Cissy Freeman (freeman@freelark.com or 831-457-2365). A catalogue of roses in the collection can be found here.

Bring: camera and art supplies for sketching or painting as you wish; lunch and drinks; portable stool (optional); hat and sunscreen.
